PISTON SEALS
What use is the best seal if it is not properly fitted or is
damaged during fitting? To make sure that this doesn’t

is key to the performance and operational durability of
a seal and thus represents a significant quality factor.

Two methods have proved useful in practice for fitting piston
seals, irrespective of the material: using an expansion nozzle
and fitting cone and using fitting strips and a calibration sleeve.
1. Fitting with expansion nozzle and fitting cone
Two-component piston seals are fitted in two stages:
the contact ring is fitted first and then the profile ring.
This eliminates the need to calibrate the piston seal.
The fitting of both the contact ring and the profile ring is
carried out in each case by following the same process:

Place the fitting cone onto the piston.
A
Lay the contact ring/profile ring onto the fitting cone.
A
Expand the contact ring/profile ring across the cone with
the expansion sleeve and snap into the groove.
2. Fitting with a fitting strip and calibration sleeve
Piston seals can also be fitted easily using approx. 30-milli-
meter wide fitting strips made from tear-resistant nylon. With this
method, the rings are snapped over each other in two stages,
each with two fitting strips. PTFE profile rings should be heated
to approx. 80°C before fitting in water or oil. The piston seal is
then calibrated in the piston bore using a calibration sleeve.

Pour les joints de pistons, deux méthodes de montage ont fait
leurs preuves dans la pratique, indépendamment du matériau:

de montage.

manchon de calibrage.
1. Montage avec un manchon d’écartement et cône de
montage
Dans le cas de joints de pistons en deux parties, le montage doit
avoir lieu en deux étapes, en montant tout d’abord l’élément de
pré serrage, puis le joint profilé. Un calibrage du joint de piston
n’est pas nécessaire ensuite.
Le montage de l’élément de pré serrage et du joint profilé a
lieu respectivement selon le même schéma:

Poser le cône de montage sur le piston.
A
Poser l’élément de pré serrage/le joint profilé sur le cône
de montage.

Etirer l’élément de pré serrage/le joint profilé au-delà du cône
à l’aide du manchon d’écartement, et l’enfoncer dans la gorge.
